Story #1: Congress on Thursday gave final approval to an overhaul of the nation’s financial regulatory system, intended to address the causes of the 2008 economic crisis and rewrite the rules for a more complex — and mistrustful — era on Wall Street. The White House indicated today that Barack Obama plans to sign the Financial Overhaul bill that was first passed by the House and then yesterday in Senate by a filibuster-proof majority of 60 to 39, thanks to 3 liberal New England Republicans. Grandstanding on the measure’s passage was Harry Reid who after squandering many billions in tax dollars, said, "No more bailouts. No bank is too big to fail." ...and why is it that politicians didn't come to that conclusion BEFORE they mortgaged our great grandchildren to pay off their big bank buddies?

--------------------

Story #2: Supporters claim the addition of Muslim holidays to the New York City school system calendar would “send a positive message to the Muslim community that you are welcome here,” but the Big Apple’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg is no fan of the plan. Bloomberg claims the school children already take too much time off, and points to statistics that only four of 10 students in the system graduate on time. Muslim enrollment in the New York City schools has risen to 12 percent, or 100-thousand students, and religious leaders there are demanding five more days off over the next decade. Having failed to convince the mayor, they have called an end run, hoping to convince lawmakers in Albany to take up the measure and make it a law statewide. This could be an ominous sign of harsh Sharia Musim law coming to America.

-----------------------

Story #3: One of the unexpected side effects of Obama’s socialized medicine plan could be the state claiming the right to determine what you can eat or drink. When your good health becomes a matter of fiscal policy, you can predict the “fat police” stepping into your life, regulating nutrition as they see fit, and it appears early salvos in that battle are now sounding in Illinois. Murmurs from “public interest groups” located in the Land of Lincoln are suggesting a mandatory state tax on sugary soft drinks that could potentially raise the price of high calorie sodas by one or two cents per ounce. That’s right, this Illinois “fat tax” could raise the price of a two-liter pop bottle by 60 cents to $1.20. For now, it’s still in the talking stage. Perhaps they are talking it over coffee—without sugar, of course.

---------------

Story #4: Politicians often use the phrase “nuclear option” in a figurative sense, but with the Gulf oil spill still somewhat uncertain, some are now considering its more literal use. Although BP claimed yesterday that they finally capped the well for the first time since the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, there is always ‘plan B’ or in this case ‘plan N.’ Eminent scientists, including Viktor Mikhailov, the former Russian Minister of nuclear energy, believe that if the latest attempt by BP doesn’t do the trick that a detonation of a 10-kiloton nuclear blast over the Gulf floor could permanently seal the leak once and for all. Mikhailov claimed Russia has used the power of the atom in the past, on land, to seal off runaway oil wells. However, other scientists are concerned such a nuclear blast in the gulf could rip an even larger hole in the earth, compounding the problem, and possibly triggering earthquakes that could reach to the New Madrid fault line which runs right through America’s heartland. For now, Washington and British Petroleum are both on record as opposing the use of this “nuclear option” and hoping against hope that the latest fix will stay fixed.

-----------------

Story #5: The Family Research Council has leveled strong criticism against plans by Amtrak for the passenger train service to use tax dollars to promote travel to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered passengers. Amtrak plans to spend a quarter-million dollars recruiting homosexual passengers. The Family Research Council points out Amtrak isn't a private business, and this government-run business is now spending 250-thousand dollars taken directly from the pockets of taxpayers, during these difficult economic times. Spokesman Peter Sprigg points out that this is further proof the Obama Administration has gone OFF THE RAILS by allowing Amtrak to spend this money, insulting the millions of Americans who have deeply-held moral convictions against this lifestyle. Sprigg says, "yet Washington is targeting the demographically small homosexual population probably because marketing surveys suggest it is also one of the richest meaning the Administration may be more interested in riding the "gravy train" than getting the culture "back on track."
