Description: A preschooler in the Hoke County public school system in Raeford, North Carolina was force fed chicken nuggets for lunch because a state worker determined that her homemade lunch lacked nutritional value. That’s according to a report by the Carolina Journal.

And to add insult to injury the school send a note home with the girl charging her mother a $1.25 fee for the three chicken nuggets.

This culinary exchange transpired in the student’s “More at Four” preschool when the state lunchbox inspector determined that her lunch did not meet the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture guidelines.

So what exactly did the mother’s ‘nutritionally deficient’ lunch consist of? A turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, apple juice and potato chips! I don’t know about you, but there seems to be something hokey going on in the Hoke public schools when they deem chicken nuggets to be healthier than a banana and a turkey sandwich.

Despite the fact that the United States is near bankruptcy, running up record debt, apparently politicians and bureaucrats wiser than you understand the vital importance of continuing to fund the Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services so that they can enforce their mandate requiring all lunches of pre-kindergarteners meet USDA guidelines.

So next time you dare to compete against the public school system by packing an alfalfa sprouts veggie burger for your 3rd grader, think again because you may be paying three times: Once by paying those outrageously high prices from Whole Foods, then again to the public school food police, and again when you file your tax returns to pay to keep funding the long arm of the law and their legions of lunch box inspectors.
